How Lauda Musicam works

Board of Directors

Terms of 3 years. Elections will be held every year at the first member’s meeting of the season to elect 2 members of the Board. The Board will then decide amongst themselves on officer positions for that year.

  • Susan Richter
  • Barbara Stark
  • Rob Grill
  • Mark Lemnah
  • Angela Irving

Concert Director

We hire a professional director to direct the dress rehearsal and concert. Past concert directors have been Jody Miller and Gregory Eaton. Rehearsals are directed by LMATX members.

On-line vs in-person schedules

  • In-person members will meet with the group during our weekly rehearsals (currently set for Sunday afternoons, 2:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.) at the Salvation Army, 4700 Manor Rd, Austin, TX 78723. Most sessions will be run by either Susan or Mark, and 1 or 2 sessions will be run via ZOOM.
  • On-line members will have access to live ZOOM sessions broadcast from the in-person (Sunday afternoon, 2:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. Central Time) rehearsal. You will then have the opportunity to join us for the live dress rehearsal and concert in October/November. You can also choose to attend some sessions live and some in person.
  • Starting in Fall 2025. we are doing a completely different repertoire from Lauda Musicam of Atlanta. Therefore, the online sessions run by Jody Miller on Tuesdays are not relevant to LMATX. You must be a member of LMATX to perform with LMATX.

Missed rehearsals

In the event of a known missed rehearsal where we have been notified in advance, you will be given access to a recording of the ZOOM session that covers the class that you will miss.

Music files

You will have access to all of the music that we will be performing via a Google Drive web page. There will also be a limited number of paper copies of the music at the rehearsals for those that prefer.

Audio recordings

We will make available recordings of all the music that we will be performing, with one instrument on each line. These recordings will be available with and without a click track. This is very useful for rehearsing the music at home.

Season vs Semester

  • Lauda Season runs from late August until the end of the Spring Concert, which is either late April or early May.
  • Semesters are the two halves of a season; August – November, and January – May.

Small ensembles

Members are encouraged to form small ensemble groups. These groups are used to fill in the concerts between the full ensemble pieces. The small groups should endeavor to present another facet of early music to our audience, such as different instruments (not just recorders); voices, strings, harps, louds, or even dancing. The small groups are responsible for arranging their own rehearsal time and must let the Vice President know of your intentions, your music, list of performers, and must run through your piece/s with the Vice President 2 weeks prior to the concert.

Concert Dress

Variations on black. Color accents are fine as long as the main theme is black.

Performance Standards

Performing members must meet a reasonable standard of playing ability and commit to attending either the in-person or on-line practice sessions. Missed rehearsals can be made up with a recording of the ZOOM rehearsal for that week. We ask that people not sign up to be a performing member if they would have difficulty devoting appropriate practice time to the repertoire and playing it well in a performance. If we feel someone is not achieving the needed quality of performance, we may ask that person not to participate in the performance. With that said, we are an amateur group and do not expect professional level playing. Just really good playing.
